2.3. Menu

This section describes the function of each menu item. Many menu items are shown with a keyboard shortcut. When such a shortcut is available, you may use the keyboard combination instead of choosing it in the menu.

File menu

CTRL+N New

Clears display and all tasks stored in task history. Resets all results and flags.

CTRL+O Open

Opens the task file and calculates it. The program reads and calculates line by line, ignoring all that appears after the equal sign (=).

CTRL+S Save As

All of the calculations can be saved and recalled again. The program saves the complete task history with its results.

CTRL+P Print

Prints the task history with the belonging results.

Exit

Close Calculator for Chemists.

 

Edit menu

CTRL+Z Undo

Reverses the last command or deletes the last entry you typed.

CTRL+X Cut

Copies the selected text to the clipboard or, if nothing is selected, copies the whole expression in the input line, and then clears it from the input line.

CTRL+C Copy

Copies the selected text to the clipboard for pasting into other applications.

CTRL+V Paste

Copies the text from the clipboard and places it in the input line.

SHIFT+DEL Delete

Deletes the selected text or, if nothing is selected clears one character from the left.

CTRL+E Copy Math Expression

Copies the mathematical expression formed from the input task (can be seen as a ToolTip text ) to the clipboard.

CTRL+R Copy Result

Copies the last result to the clipboard.

CTRL+T Copy Task

Copies the last task to the clipboard

CTRL+A Select All

Calculator for Chemists selects the whole expression in the input line.

CTRL+Y Enclose Expression

Encloses the selected text in parenthesess, if nothing is selected the whole expression will be enclosed in parentheses.

ESC Clear Input Line

Clears the input line.

CTRL+D Clear Display

Clears the display.

Clear History

Clears the task history.

The insert menu contains list of mathematical functions, scientific constants and molecular fragments.

Format menu

#rad Angle Unit in Radians

It is usual for scientists and engineers to measure angles in radians.

#deg Angle Unit in Degrees

Degrees are am unit of angular measure in which the angle of an entire Circle is 360°.

#grad Angle Unit in Grads

Grade is a unit of angular measure in which the angle of an entire Circle is 400 grads.

#auto Automatic Mode

Automatic mode displays numbers exactly as you enter them and answers to 15 significant decimal places.

#sci Scientific Mode

Scientific mode displays a number as a mantissa - with one digit to the left of the decimal point and the user-specified number of decimal places - and the exponent

#fix Fixed Mode

Fixed mode displays numbers rounded to an user specified number of decimal places (default is 2)

#dec Decimal Places

You must follow the #sci or #fix with digits (0-15) specifying the number of decimal places, e.g. enter #sci3 in input line.

#dig Use Digit Grouping

If the Digit Grouping is checked, then the number is shown in decimal format with a separator (small space) that separates groups of three digits from both sides of the decimal separator.

#fun Use Function Separator

Use this option if you want to enable/disable the colon (:) as function separator.

Decimal Separator

You can use the dot (.) or comma (,) as decimal separator
Dot (0.5) #dot
Comma (0,5) #comma

Save Current Settings

The Save method persists any configuration settings that have been modified in Format and View menu. If a configuration file does not exist at the physical location where c4c.exe is stored, a new configuration file will be created to contain any settings that are different from the default configuration.

Reset to Defaults

Fill the c4c.cfg file with default values. Deleting the c4c.cfg file will also set the application back to the original default settings.

 

View menu

F12 Show Display Only

Use this option if you want to hide the calculators keyboard and show Display only. F12 key is the switch between different dimensions of the Calculator for Chemists.

F11 Always on Top

Including this option will make the Calculator for Chemists visible even when it is not active.

F9 View History

View calculated history.

F10 Number Format

Opens the dialog box where you can change the displayed number formats and the unit of angle measurement.

Task Numbering

Adds task numbers before tasks in history.

F1 Online Help

The Online Help for Calculator for Chemists provides a detailed help files with syntax, usage, and examples for all of the supported functions.

SHIFT+F1 About Calculator

Displays a dialog in which some information about the current version of Calculator for Chemists can be found.
